Quote for the day: “My purpose and passion in life is to share the beauty and challenge of the mountains with my guests. To guide them through the spectacular Himalaya is an honour & delight. To see the excitement, wonder and human endeavour of each individual is truly amazing…a job like no other.” Cherie Horne

1) Why did you sign up to trek to Everest Base Camp? When I was in year 11, I had to do a major assessment on peoples interest in Alpine regions, real & perceived risks of expeditions and the impact of tourists on the environment. I was researching Everest Base Camp, Kanchenjunga and K2. This is what sparked my interest in Everest and I remember saying that one day I wanted to go to Everest Base Camp, never really expecting to be able to fulfill the dream. When my amazing and inspirational friend of 15 years said she was guiding an expedition to Everest Base Camp, everything fell into place and my dream started to become a reality!

2) Have you done any trekking in the past, if so where? Only when I was in school. I did a four day hike at Wilson’s Prom for Outdoor Education.

3) What are you most looking forward to or hope to get out of the trek? I’m most looking forward to the challenge. I am hoping that I can prove to myself that with hard work and a strong will, anything is possible. I’m also looking forward to getting out of my comfort zone and seeing just how big and beautiful the rest of the world is.

4) Do you have any fears regarding the expedition? My only fear is that I wont be physically strong or well enough to climb Kala Patthar. It is a big goal of mine to be able to summit and see the beautiful views of Everest.
5) Two words to describe your feelings with less than 2 days to go? Bring it!

John:

1) Why did you sign up to trek to Everest Base Camp? One was that I was not invited to the “girls” holiday in Greece, the second was a young lady by the name of Michelle “conned” me during a moment of weakness on the pier in Lorne and the final reason was that since studying China as a subject at Uni I have always been fascinated by the people and their culture.

2) Have you done any trekking in the past, if so where? My trekking experience is limited to School camps and I am certain this does not count where we are heading!

3) What are you most looking forward to or hope to get out of the trek? The excitement of meeting and sharing an adventure with a group of people who have similar interests and goals. The exposure to the way of life, religion and culture of the Nepalese people, as I am certain I will learn and be enlightened by them. To experience the “wow” factor associated with “Everest” and to return home with fantastic memories of the trek and the group I will share this adventure with.

4. Do you have any fears regarding the expedition? If we lived our life with nothing but fear and regret, for me personally it would a shame. I am however, apprehensive of the unknown and especially concerned about my abilities to cope with the “out of comfort zone” concept. Therefore, the challenge is to have a “red hot crack” at ensuring I get all that there is out of this adventure.

5) Two words to describe your feelings with less than 2 days to go? Nepal awaits!

Michelle:

1) Why did you sign up to trek to Everest Base Camp? I’ve always wanted to visit Nepal get to know the people & culture, I love a challenge & I love amazing, beautiful nature. This trek to EBC gives me all three!

2) Have you done any trekking in the past, if so where? I’ve done small treks in Thailand, Crete, Israel & New Zealand but nothing like this, nothing as demanding and amazing.

3) What are you most looking forward to or hope to get out of the trek? I’m so looking forward to being on the roof of the world; to seeing the amazing landscapes & meeting the Nepalese people.

4) Do you have any fears regarding the expedition? No! I don’t want to consider any fears; but I really want to make it to the summit of Kala Patthar (5550m) I guess I’d be really disappointed if I couldn’t.

5) Two words to describe your feelings with less than 2 days to go: Excited…ecstatic!
