Nepal Earthquake 2015
As we are painfully aware, on Saturday 25th April, 2015, Nepal, the beautiful country I call my second home was struck by the most devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake.
The force of this unthinkable natural disaster has utterly obliterated the Himalayan nation. It has killed over 6000 innocent people, injured over 14,000 and demolished or damaged over 600,000 houses.
The sadness and heart-ache I am feeling for Nepal and its beautiful people I consider like family, is totally overwhelming me.
I was supposed to be guiding in Nepal during the month of April and was scheduled to be in Kathmandu when the avalanche struck last week, however I cancelled this trekking expedition due to 3 upcoming treks in the Everest region later this year.
Since the tragedy struck I have felt so powerless and unproductive back here in Melbourne watching and reading the daily heartbreaking news of this utterly brutal catastrophe.
One thing I do have is many friends, colleagues and contacts in Nepal.
One of them, Mr Pasang Sherpa is a dear friend and associate.
Since that horrendous day, April 25th I have been speaking to Pasang daily and discussing a unique and personalised way that we can provide direct and immediate assistance to the desperate people in great need.
My mission is to support Pasang in raising funds for the suffering victims, in particular the local village people who have been afflicted by the frightful earthquake and resultant avalanche on Everest.
I don’t want them to be forgotten and abandoned. These isolated and remote areas need our help.
Mr Pasang Sherpa is my good friend, a man of integrity, strength, compassion and unconditional love for his people, the Sherpas and his remarkable country Nepal.
His mission is now my mission and together we will make a difference, despite the heartache and destruction and provide direct and immediate support, assistance and compassion to the men, women and children of outlying villages in Nepal.
I sincerely ask all my family, friends, colleagues, past and present clients and followers to unite with me and help rebuild the lives and hope of the innocent victims of this unimaginable disaster.
We must give them our strength, compassion, love and hope to bring back the smiles on their beautiful faces so they can continue to live their lives with the happiness and peace they deserve.
Let us make a difference; because we can!
I sincerely thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
With kindest regards,
Cherie
