Quote for the day: To keep the body in good health is a duty, for otherwise we shall not be able to trim the lamp of wisdom, and keep our mind strong and clear. Water surrounds the lotus flower, but does not wet its petals.

Happy Thursday Special friends,

I have been very busy this week constructing my on-line Health & Nutrition store so I haven’t had much time to do many posts, sorry! Hopefully it should be launched next week which is very exciting!

Just for today I thought I would post some interesting news that is worth sharing with you all, definitely food for thought anyway!

Super Vegiesbroccoli
Australian scientists have made a major breakthrough in the fight against cancer by developing the world’s first super vegetables.
Booster Broccoli is the first of the new range and will be available this week. Scientists worked with the Department of Primary Industries to produce Vital Vegetables, which contain 40% more antioxidants than regular vegies. These vegies are 100% natural, Australian-owned and grown, and can be cooked and enjoyed in exactly the same way as regualar varieties. According to nutritionists eating a few handfuls of Booster Broccoli at least three times a week will go a long way to achieving better health and vitality.

Purple root to fitness New research suggests that the key to boosting endurance could be in a glass of beetroot juice! A daily dose apparently helps us exercise longer and half a litre lowers blood pressure. While the earthy tang might not be for everyone’s taste, researchers say it could help everyone from athletes to pensioners. UK researcher, Andy Jones says, “we were amazed by the effects of beetroot juice on oxygen uptake because these effects cannot be achieved by any other known means, including training.”beetroot-juice1
“Obviously you get fitter with training but your oxygen uptake stays fixed,” says Jones.
The benefits are likely to be due to the high levels of nitrate in beetroot juice. The chemical is found in leafy vegetables such as lettuce and spinach but is especially concentrated in juices. It is thought that it undergoes a series of changes in the body that widen the blood vessels and improves oxygen supply to the muscles. However, drinking the juice is likely to have another consequence – purple urine, or “beeturia”.

.turmericSpice cuts breast cancer risk Curcumin, found in the Indian spice turmeric, can cut cancer risks of post-menopausal women if they take HRT, says the University of Missouri. Previous studies have found women taking oestrogen-progestin HRT boosts risks of developing and accelerating breast tumours because progestin lifts production of the VEGF molecule, which helps supply blood to a tumour. It was found curcumin inhibits progestin-induced VEGF secretion from breast cancer cells.

So there is some interesting research to think about…perhaps we should we go off and buy some Super Vegies, beetroot and turmeric for dinner tonight! 😉funny-broccoli

Hope you are all making the most of every day and being the best person you can possibly be!

Take care

Cherie x
