G’day Groovers!

Hope you all had a fantastic weekend full of fun, exercise, relaxation and some enlightenment perhaps? 🙂

I had a great day yesterday watching the awesome Melbourne Vixens defeat the Adelaide Thunderbirds (54-46) in the ANZ Championship grand final. It was a sell-out crowd at Hisense Arena, Melbourne which is terrific for the exposure of netball in Australia. The girls regularly attend our gym (Harpers) as Craig acts as their strength and conditioning coach throughout the season. Well done girls!

Now for some health news to kick of a new week that you might find interesting…

EXERCISE, DIET LINK TO BRAIN

A ‘Heart healthy’ diet and moderate physical activity may help preserve the brain’s ability to memorise and think as we age, the US Alzheimer’s Association says.
Research continues to show us that there are lifestyle decisions we all can make to keep our brains healthier, and that also may lower our risk of memory decline as we age.
So… start moving and nourish your body with wholesome food!

TIRE THEM OUT AND THEY WILL SLEEP BETTER

Young children take an extra three minutes to fall asleep for every hour of the day they spent physically inactive, according to researchers.
University of Auckland specialists investigated sleep patterns among seven year olds, monitoring them with a gadget attached to their waist that can tell from a child’s movement whether it is asleep, awake but inactive, or active.
Those who had been inactive during the day took longer to nod off. The study also found that children who fall asleep faster sleep for longer.
The findings are important because children who sleep badly or for short periods are likely to do poorly at school or become obese.
So…parents, tire your kids out before they go to bed will help them sleep!

That’s all for today friends, enjoy your day!

Keep smiling, take care 🙂
